A Little Info on WIREWRAPPING...

Wire-wrapping is an artform
approximately 4,000 years old .
Developed during the Mycean culture,
lost & re-found, refined & re-defined;
and now in Stu Cochrane's designs, WireRap...

Utilizing ONLY wire and pliers,
the artist shapes the piece by hand and patience.
Wire-wrapped jewelry is generally described as 'free-form' and 'delicate'.
(Of course there as many styles as there are artists...)

Those definitions don't apply
to Stu Cochrane's style, though!

Stu uses Sterling Silver and 14ct. Gold / Sterling-fill wire
to create his jewelry.
(Pure gold doesn't have the strength and durability he insists on)
Each design he makes MUST be wearable,
not just beautiful & graceful.

Stu developed his style of intricate 'wrapping'
somewhat out of necessity, inspired by his wife (me).
I of course was the first to wear his creations,
and proceeded to mangle them.
Yes, it was messy!

Traditional wire-wrap designs just could not stand-up to the wear-and-tear...

And I pointed out that jewelry that fragile is not wearable!
(And if he could make it tough enough for me,
pretty much anyone could live in it).

So, long months & too much wire later,
Stu crafted a ring that Claire still is wearing 24/7
without damage & destruction occuring.

Stu since then has created many different styles,
each wearable and elegant
(and a touch decadent!)

Custom-designs are Stu's favorite challenge! To design a ring or bracelet to match a client's style & desire...
that's his pleasure!
